As an educator, I am deeply committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment that recognizes, celebrates, and honors the diversity of all students. I believe that every child, regardless of their background, race, gender, ability, or cultural heritage, deserves to be seen, heard, and valued for their unique identity and strengths. This is why I actively work to create a classroom space where students feel safe and supported—both in their academic growth and in their personal development.
In my teaching, I prioritize Indigenization, meaning that I integrate Indigenous knowledge, teachings, and perspectives into the curriculum in meaningful and respectful ways. I strive to learn from Indigenous communities and support students in understanding the richness and diversity of Indigenous cultures, histories, and languages. This can include sharing Indigenous stories, teachings about the land, and perspectives on sustainability and community, which enrich the educational experience for all students. I recognize the importance of decolonizing education and creating a classroom environment where Indigenous ways of knowing and being are valued alongside other cultural viewpoints. Through this approach, I aim to deepen students’ understanding of the interconnectedness between people, the land, and the natural world.
Equally important is my dedication to inclusive physical activity. I firmly believe that physical education should be a space where all students, regardless of their physical ability, can engage in activities that promote health, well-being, and social connection. I make it a priority to adapt and modify activities so that every student has the opportunity to participate, whether through differentiated instruction, providing alternative equipment, or offering various levels of challenge. My goal is to ensure that every student feels confident, competent, and encouraged to be active in ways that work for them. By promoting physical activity in an inclusive and supportive manner, I aim to empower students to appreciate the value of movement, develop physical literacy, and understand the importance of staying active for a lifetime.
Together, Indigenization and inclusive physical activity are essential elements of a holistic educational experience. I see physical activity as a tool for building community, fostering teamwork, and teaching the values of fairness, empathy, and respect. Whether we are learning Indigenous games, traditional dances, or modern activities, my focus is on ensuring that each student feels included and motivated to participate to the best of their ability.
As a teacher, I am dedicated to promoting an atmosphere of mutual respect, empathy, and cooperation where every student’s voice is heard, and every student’s potential is realized. I believe in differences within the community where we learn from each other, celebrate our differences, and collectively work toward a more inclusive and just world. This includes recognizing the strengths and challenges each student brings to the table, ensuring that their learning and physical experiences are meaningful, engaging, and supportive of their individual needs. Ultimately, my goal is to empower students to see themselves as active participants in both their own learning journey and in the larger, diverse world around them.
